When is Dry Pressing Used for Molding?

The molding method of technical ceramic parts is not always the same, but is determined according to some characteristic indexes of the products that need to be produced, such as shape, size, performance, and so on. This article will briefly describe when to use the dry pressing process to form technical ceramic parts.

There are many ways to form technical ceramics, such as dry pressing, injection molding, extrusion, isostatic pressing, and so on. In recent years, several new technologies such as filter press molding, centrifugal grouting, and so on have also been developed at home and abroad.

However, the molding method of technical ceramic parts is not always the same, but is determined according to some characteristic indexes of the products that need to be produced, such as shape, size, performance, and so on. This article will briefly describe when to use the dry pressing process to form technical ceramic parts.

When the shape of the technical ceramic parts you want to design is very simple, and the wall thickness does not exceed 1 mm, and the ratio of length to diameter is less than 4:1, we recommend dry pressing.

This molding method has high production efficiency, each machine can produce about 15-50 pieces per minute.

Under ideal conditions, the pressure exerted by the hydraulic press on the powder is very uniform, but it will also be affected by the filling of the powder, resulting in different pressures.

If a mechanical press is used, the pressure will change with the particle size of the filling powder, which will cause the size of the molded part to shrink during the sintering process, which will affect the quality of the entire product.

When making alumina ceramics by dry pressing, the uniformity of ceramic powder particles plays an important role in the filling of the mold. If the filling amount is not accurate, it will easily affect the dimensional accuracy of technical ceramic parts.

Therefore, when selecting powders, powders with a particle size of 60um-200um should be selected, which will make the filling more uniform and make the molding effect of technical ceramics better.
