Atmospheric pressure sintering, also known as pressureless sintering, refers to a process of sintering by heating products under atmospheric pressure (it means there is no need to apply additional pressure in the sintering process).
Atmospheric pressure sintering is a common process in the sintering of zirconia ceramic parts and alumina ceramic parts.
According to whether sintering aids are added in the sintering process to form the sintering liquid phase, atmospheric pressure sintering can be divided into two categories: solid-phase sintering and liquid phase sintering.
Atmospheric pressure sintering is one of the most basic sintering processes, this process is not only simple, but also suitable for the firing of different shapes and sizes, and the temperature is easy to be controlled.
Because in the atmospheric pressure sintering process, there are only two parameters to control the sintering densification process: temperature and heating rate, so it is of great significance to study the densification process and wet microstructure development in the sintering process.
Atmospheric sintering mainly adopts the electric heating method. According to different requirements, there are the following types of electric heating elements:
1. Heat-resistant alloy resistance wire, the highest heating temperature is 1100℃, and the general operating temperature is ≤1000℃;
2. Zirconia ceramic rods, the highest heating temperature is 1550°C, and the general operating temperature is ≤1450°C; alumina ceramic rods, the highest operating temperature is 1700°C in an oxidizing atmosphere, and the general operating temperature is ≤1600°C, and it can be used for a long time at 1700℃ in reducing atmosphere.
3. Graphite heating element, the highest operating temperature can reach 2000℃ in a non-oxidizing atmosphere.
